The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we live and operate on a daily basis. For many people around the world, working from home has become the new normal, and being stuck indoors a natural part of life. That said, you still have to go out from time to time, which means that there is always a chance that you will expose yourself to people who might be carrying the virus. This might not be a problem for you if you are young, healthy, and vibrant, but it can be a big problem for your loved ones who might have weaker immune systems.

This is why you need to take good care of your health during the pandemic, as well as take care of your loved ones, especially if you are living together under the same roof. With that in mind, let’s go over the five important tips you should follow to safeguard your health and the health of your loved ones.

Combining different types of at-home workouts

The whole family should be maintaining healthy levels of physical activity, there should be no debating about that. If your kids, parents, brothers or sisters don’t want to work out, you should try to motivate them to get off the couch and get moving. Now, you could try exercising together in the outdoors, but if you’re stuck at home, then combining different types of at-home workouts should do the trick.

After all, regular physical exercise brings a myriad of health benefits, one of which is a stronger immune system. So, be sure to combine resistance training with some cardio, and then sprinkle in some restorative yoga a couple of times a week. You will notice that you’re feeling stronger, healthier, and more energized than before.

Time to start eating well

Nutrition can have a profound impact on our quality of life, and right now it’s more important than ever before to focus on eating healthy, and wholesome foods that are rich in essential macro and micro nutrients. Be sure to get the family on board and start by eliminating unhealthy foods from the fridge and the pantry.

Replace them with healthy, high protein and high antioxidant foods from a variety of sources, including all colours of vegetables, lean meats, nuts and seeds, healthy herbs, as well as plenty of antioxidant foods like garlic and various dark berries. It wouldn’t hurt to supplement with those crucial vitamins like D3 as well, particularly now that you’re mostly stuck indoors.

Learning the basic emergency skills

The COVID virus is not something you can just shrug off as an overblown story and tell yourself that it wouldn’t affect you. Many people withstand it well, but many others succumb to it or barely escape with their lives. You need to be aware of this, and you need to be prepared for any emergencies that might occur.

For example, we know by now that COVID patients can suffer from severe cardio-vascular damage, which is why getting trained and certified in ACLS and other essential emergency-response courses would be a wise decision, because it will allow you to act on a moment’s notice. Should one of your family members require emergency assistance such as CPR, you should be ready to administer immediate care before the paramedics arrive – remember, you could save a life, so having essential emergency skills matters.

Adopting a fresh mindset

mindset

The mind can dictate how the body behaves and how well it handles various external stimuli – viral infections included. Whether your key goal is to protect yourself and your loved ones from the virus, or if you just want to lead healthier lives, it’s important to refresh your mindset and adopt a healthier state of being.

You can do this by practicing being present, but also by actively meditating in the morning and in the evening to rid your mind of any negativity and angst. Make sure you do this with your family in a circle to imbue your relationship with a feeling of love and connectedness.

Adhering to COVID prevention rules

Lastly, always remember to adhere to COVID prevention rules, both indoors and outside. Make sure that everyone is washing their hands regularly for at least 20 seconds. Sanitize your home every day, and if you can, leave your shoes at the front door – don’t let anyone walk around the house in their shoes. Wear masks when you’re outside and follow the social distancing rules, because they are there to keep you and your family safe.

Wrapping up

Being stuck indoors is not only boring, but it can also have negative effects on your health. Make sure you follow these tips to keep COVID out of your home, and to be ready to respond to an emergency should the need arise.
