Berry And Orange: Two Healthy Smoothies Recipes

Nutritionist Bannie Williams and author of The Smoothie Manifesto shares two of her go-to recipes from her mouth-watering debut book.

Nothin’ but a Berry Thang

Whether you need some new breakfast inspiration, or want to improve your overall health, the incorporation of a smoothie into your daily routine is a great way to nourish and sustain the body, says Bannie.

“Berries are a rich source of antioxidants and chia seeds are loaded with healthy fats and natural protein. This recipe is also packed with vitamin C for a healthy immune system and calcium for strong bones.”

Tip: Try adding unsweetened vanilla protein powder to this recipe to make it even more filling.

Recipe:

  • 1 banana, chopped
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 2 tablespoons natural yoghurt
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds
  • ½ cup preferred milk

Blend until smooth and serve in a glass. Top with 1 tablespoon of frozen raspberries if desired.

Immune Boosting Golden Turmeric Shake

There is a lot of buzz around turmeric at the moment and it has become a house hold ingredient for health enthusiasts, adds Bannie.

“Turmeric has long been used for its medicinal properties and has been known for its potent anti-inflammatory properties and assistance with digestion. Pairing turmeric with healthy fats (including coconut milk) is the best way to ensure it is absorbed by the body and for maximum health benefits. This shake is also an excellent source of vitamin C and is deigned to flood the body with immune boosting and anti-inflammatory nutrients.”

Recipe:

  • 2 oranges, peeled
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 medjool date, pitted
  • ½ cup coconut cream

Blend until smooth and serve in a glass. Top with an extra pinch of turmeric powder if desired.
