How To Stay Wild With Emma Maggs

I can’t exactly pinpoint the moment pieces of me started to fragment, however I will say this, when the final piece really chipped away at me the desire to feel free, ignite my creativity and have some raw adrenalin ripping through my being became extremely real. And so the re-wilding began…

2020 for me, like most, was a rollercoaster I was firmly strapped in for, filled with immense highs and thundering lows and whilst the haze was still thick with the prospect of this new medium – being underwater photography –  it brought with it a glow that not only I appreciated.

After my experience with my own body that same year, in which I bore witness to it enduring huge pain and creating life, a healthy baby girl (and then healing after all of that), my appreciation and utter respect was grand and I started to realise that whilst I wish I had a few less dimples on my butt and a neck that looked a little less like an old brown paper bag, this body of mine was incredible and had done so much to get me to this very moment. It deserves a daily ‘F*** YEAH’ and a high-5.

I am a firm believer that work-life balance is a myth, and it is more about prioritising different aspects of your life at different scheduled moments to be in alignment. But I started to question, how do you bring joy or happiness into these everyday moments? And how do you stay you, whilst being a mother, daughter, wife, professional? The pull can be quite fatiguing.

Emma Maggs shooting Wildfemmes

Queue Wildfemmes – the photographic series at its core is about celebrating women and their bodies holistically, and gave me an incredible footing to explore the journey’s, highlights, practicing principles, missteps, and coping mechanisms of modern women from all over on how they stay wild whilst pursuing life. Just everyday life, in their own way.

The speaker series is a smattering of inspiring, and empowered women who don’t mind a good deep dive into the uncomfortable. Think body insecurities, imposter syndrome, trauma healing, mental health, body dysmorphia, toxic relationships, entrepreneurship, the works. Add a sprinkling of their daily practices, rituals and methods for creating harmony and abundance – ‘BUWOO’ as I like to call it (business woowoo) – you have yourself a safe place for raw, vulnerable conversations filled with humility, relatable experiences, practical takeaways and usually a few lol’s.

We started off with global PR and Comms Specialist Vanessa Budah, who amongst many other things, walked us through her ‘Template for Life’ and her unique method for manifesting. Joining her is naturopath Ema Taylor, She’s a Crowd CEO Zoe Condliffe, wellness advocate Caroline Groth, Scientist and model Laura Wells, actress Charlotte Chimes, Dr Olivia Lesslar and many more to come.

What started out as a new creative outlet after nearly two decades of working in the TV and content creation industry, grew into a powerful series that gives to women everywhere, especially those who have the opportunity to view themselves through my lens. And I realise now, that may very well be my superpower.

So if you have an itch for emotional mastery and a thriving life that likes to be scratched, you’ll feel very at home over at Wildfemmes with the rest of us muses.

Stay wild,

Emma Maggs x
